What good is a circus without a good sideshow? Some people consider the sideshow a secondary attraction, but do you know the story of the first ever sideshow? To see it, we'll have to travel back to the beginning of the sideshow.
This particular sideshow was called the firstshow, because it took place in the main tent at the beginning of the circus. It warmed up the crowd and got them ready for what was to come next.
This sideshow was the first for a lot of things. And we can see how all of the "freaks" we associate with sideshows had their humble beginnings:
- The first bearded lady was, in the beginning, the goateed lady.
- The first giant was, in the beginning, the slightly-larger-than-normal person.
- The first siamese twins were, in the beginning, the lookalikes who liked to hold hands.
- The first albino performers were, in the beginning, the really pale performers.
And so on...
OK, so maybe the whole story is fictional. But perhaps you'll pick up the habit of calling the sideshow the firstshow, in honor of these brave performers, the very first of their kind.
