The Japanese have done it again with another brilliant invention: the commuter collar.
The commuter collar attaches to a normal dress shirt collar, converting it into a store-all helper for your long train ride. You can think of it as a backpack for your neck, but with only a single compartment and openings on either side of your head (where your tie would normally come out of).
The first use of the commuter collar was as an mp3 player + headphones holder. There's no need to run wires from your waist or pocket up to your ears. With the commuter collar, the headphones extend from out of your shirt collar.
Pretty soon people were storing all sorts of things in their collars. Ever since the invention took off, on any train on any given work day you can see people pulling all sorts of things from out of their collars. Just imagine what it looks like to see people pulling out:
- breath mints
- candy and snacks
- tightly rolled magazines
- even beverages in aluminum cans!
