Linkword Stories:

The hit single, "My Sharona", was at the head of the pop charts for 6 weeks. "My Sharona" was The Knack's debut song---they hadn't released one before it.

Every time The Knack performed "My Sharona", the lead singer would imagine that Sharona (the girl who inspired the song) was there in front of the stage, cheering him on.

But Sharona become his obsession, and he began to picture her in front of everything he saw, obstructing his view. His band mates claim that he began to exclaim "My-" before every sentence he spoke, as if seeing the girl and calling out to her before cutting off the thought. But before long, the exclamations became more frequent, sometimes piling up at the beginning of everything he said until eventually the "Mys" pushed out all the other words. Sometimes this would happen during performance of the song, leading to nonsense lines like "Myyy-, myyy-, myyy-, myyy-, myyy-, WOOO!".
