estiesteemto be

Linkword Stories:

I've always been a little wary of psychoanalysis. It seems to be a very subjective technique. And now it's gotten even stranger. As if analyzing people on a couch wasn't enough, psychoanalysts are now analyzing dead people! How exactly do you do that?

Well, whatever the method, there was a big fuss about some analysis done on Shakespeare's "Hamlet". Do you know what the conclusion was? That Shakespeare had no self-esteem!

How can someone claim that such an esteemed author had no self-esteem? Apparently they did so by analyzing one of the famous lines from the play:

"To be or not to be, that is the question."

From this, the analysts claimed that not only was the character of Hamlet contemplating suicide, but that Shakespeare himself was as well! They say that this suicide speech was a cry for help brought about by low self-esteem. I think that perhaps an attack on such a famous line was a ploy by the analysts for immediate undeserved esteem in their field.
